Fantasy

If you’ve heard of the Fantasy Premier League, commonly known as FPL in England, you’ll know it is a game where users can create squads based on real players and earn points based on their performance in actual league fixtures. Take that, but apply it to Roblox via RoBall. Leagues can set up Fantasy Events similar to how real fantasy leagues occur and simulate that minigame experience to build engagement within their playerbase.

RoBall will complete most of the Fantasy Setup but a league is required to reach out well in advance (often between 1 - 1.5 months) ahead of their upcoming season to ensure full support for eligible competitions. This includes the Player Pool, Gameweeks and Scoring Rules.

Across the platform, the terms Fantasy Season and Fantasy Event may be thrown around. It is important to understand the difference.

Fantasy Event: A standalone Fantasy League for a given competition (this may a division within a league). Allows a user to select a squad for this competition and compete on leaderboards.

Fantasy Season: A collection of Fantasy Events. All events under this season will share the same team pool, player pool (list of players that are selectable for any event under this season), scoring rules and other pre-defined constraints.

Events under a season will share numerous resources BUT can have different budget caps (amount a user can spend on their squad given the respective prices of players).

To join a Fantasy Event, you should navigate to the Fantasy Season in question and select the event they wish to join.

When selecting to join, you will be prompted to enter a team name (and yes, these are checked for profanity). Such team names must not be used by anyone else in the given event you are looking to join. You will also be asked for a Club. This will always be one of the teams listed within the given event you are looking to join. By selecting a club you will be enrolled onto that club’s leaderboard for points.

Once you’ve joined the event, the next thing to do is select your squad. You will see the list of available players (which you can filter by Roblox Username or by position) to select from. You will need to select a squad such that you conform the the constraints set by the league.

By default, this is 13 players with 3 Goalkeepers, 5 Defenders, 3 Midfielders and 3 Attackers. You will also need to do with within the provided budget cap which will be available on the right side of your screen above all of your select players.

To select a player, simply click on them. To deselect then, click on them again under your selected players. Once complete, press Confirm.

Once you have selected and confirmed your valid squad, you will be taken to the default squad page. Here you can move players between your starting lineup (and bench), view the leaderboards, view player profiles to see how they performing for that given event AND most importantly, perform transfers (see further below).

On this tab, you can move players between the starting line and bench by simply clicking on them to open their context menu. In the same manner, you can also make players who are starting captain OR vice captain.

Player Profiles on this tab will only consider participation in fixtures tied to the given event you are currently viewing. You can select the the player (or search for them). You can see a breakdown of how they earned points including the total. This may be useful in planning future transfers.

2 leaderboards will be available. The official leaderboard for the event you are in + the leaderboard for the club within that event that you chose to partake in. You will be able to see the team names of other users, their points AND a week by week breakdown.

You may also view their squads for all weeks except the active week (until the fixtures for the active week have begun) by pressing “View Squad on the user in question.

In future, private fan leaderboards will also be available.

Per Fantasy Event, there are 4 available chips:

  • Bench Boost (allows you to gain points from your bench players for a given week)
  • Triple Captain (will triple your captain’s score instead of double for a given week)
  • Wildcard (allows you to make unlimited free transfers for a given week with no point deduction)
  • Free Hit

Free hit allows you to make unlimited transfers for a week and reverts your squad back to the state before the activation during the following week. For this reason, Free Hit cannot be used in the final week of an event. If you need to reverse something you may have done before activating this chip, deactivate the chip, make a transfer and then reactivate the chip.

Chips can be used until the provided deadline shown on your event view.

Scoring Rules define how users will gain points based on player performance. These rules can vary by league and are subject to change at any time. The rules are provided for the fantasy season meaning all events that fall under that given season will share the same rules.

By default, these are the following rules that are applied on season creation for Football:

  • Goal (3 points per goal)
  • Assists (1 point per assist)
  • Yellow Card (-1 point per yellow goal)
  • Red Card (-3 points)
  • Clean Sheet (Any) (2 points)
  • Match Played (2 points if they appear on the associated match uploaded to RoBall)

This rules can be changed (which can impact existing scores). Some rules also carry positional requirements that must be met otherwise a player cannot be awarded points for that event.

There are also 4 types of scoring rules which are designed to allow players of all positions to benefit from scoring.

  • Singular: Every instance of a given event (such as a goal) will net a given point count.
  • Batch: A number of instances of a given event (defined by a threshold) will net a given point count.
  • Association: A point count will be awarded as a result of a given outcome of an event associated to the team of the given player (such as a clean sheet).
  • Multi-action: A point count awarded for areas of contributions. This type of rule can vary depending on the sport and position.

Such rules may be bound by position or may be available for all players.

On the Transfers Tab, you can transfer players of your active squad (bench or starting) out and replace them at the same time.

To select a player to transfer out, click on the player in question. You will then see a list of all available players that can take their place. This may include players with a higher price OR player listed with a club not in the current event.

Select the player you wish to replace them with and the transfer will be mark as staged. To remove the transfer, simply scroll down and press “Remove” on the transfer.

To confirm the transfers, you’ll need to first preview and confirm them. If an error with your selection appears when you press “Preview Transfers”, you will be notified.

If no error occurs, you will see your new squad value, how many free transfers you have left and your point deduction (Whether Free Hit or Wildcard is being used or not). You can have one last look and press confirm to process the transfers.

Per week, you will recevie 2 free transfers and is the max you can stack. Any transfer that goes beyond your free transfer cap for the week will incur a 4 point penalty for every transfer over. If you reverse such a transfer, you can still get your points back!

Remember, if Wildcard is being used, you incur no penalty for that week.

Have fun and good luck in Fantasy!
